Sorry to ask a dumb question. For my recently purchased 1995 convertible 6 cyl XJS, the power steering reservoir is the small square type. The cap is plastic and is on hard, I can't move it with bare hands. It looks like it might be a bayonet thread. Confusingly the cap has a molded arrow indicating that it turns clockwise, or the reverse of normal, to undo. Before I escalate the force level, which way should it go? I don't want to hurt it.

This design mistake was only on the new sixes, and was fixed eventually although jaguar did not pay for refitting. Hundreds & perhaps thousands of reservoirs were broken and at a pretty hefty cost. The 12 cylinder cars did not use this hydraulic system.

left handed thread, what an idea, even tho I am a lefty I would not have come up with an idea such as that...hello power steering gurus.....all the V12s simply have a 1/4 turn to the left and they are off.. LOL simply brilliant......

I have a 93 XJS Coupe and have the same problem. If your problem is similar you will have to pry the cap off. It is a little difficult but I don't think you will break it. Mine has threads all around on the cap and on the reservoir the threads are split into thirds. I am going to grind the threads on the cap to match the reservoir and then I think it will go on with a quarter turn or slightly more.
