I installed new batteries in my remote for my 99 XJ8 and now it will not work.
I installed the batteries correctly and the tester at the parts store shows that it is transmitting.
When I install new batteries in the remote for my Corvette the car has to recognize the remote. Is this the same with the Jag? I went through the owners manual an nothing is said except for what it can do and how to use it. Anyone know how to make these two communicate?

Super! Always glad to be of assistance, glad you found the other thread. I very much appreciate the shout out, too.

Cheers,

Steven,
I tried your advise from another string ("Your problem is most likely moisture and crud under the button pads. Take the battery out and push the circuit board out of the housing, then take the rubber button pad off the board. The under side is probably pretty dirty. Wipe it out and clean it gently with some alcohol, then clean the board contacts with a pencil eraser and reassemble. That will probably do it. If not, there are remote button repair kits available at electronics stores that will repair the little carbon pad on the underside of the buttons.") And my fob works fine now! Thanks!

My key fob only works on the trunk, not the doors. Any suggestions? The local dealer wants $300.00 for a replacement.

Hi Steven and thanks but the problem was the new set of batteries that I bought. One was at 2.84 VDC and the other was at 1.54VDC. That will teach me.

Just changing the battery in your remote will not cause it to need reprogramming. I might be the remote itself failed rather than the battery going dead.
