I recently acquired a 1994 XJ12. Does anyone know how many of these were produced and imported into the US? The XJ40 in 1994 included the XJ6 and the VDP, while the XJ81 was the designation for the 1994 XJ12.

Thank you.

I guess they had long term vision, even then the fuel was priced higher than it should be now...... I believe they realize electric is on its way and thy are having their last Hurrah before gas becomes obselete........ On wall street they are starting to speed up the oil barons demise.. I hope......

Whoops, guess I dont check in here as often as I should, anyway, the book I referred to is Thorleys "Jaguar, all the Cars". Not perhaps the ultimate authority but the only one I know that has more or less complete info through about 2000 ish. Published in 2003.

William, I agree, especially given 1994 fuel prices in the US were probably fairly low while we know they are never low in the UK. Oddly, when I bought mine in 1999, the reason given by the dealer for the previous owner giving it up and for why it hadn't sold? They didnt like the gas mileage! Gas was $1.20 then!

Thank you Daniel, I find it interesting that more than twice the production of one of the worlds most prestigious cars stayed in the UK while only ???? came to the USA, at that time the worlds biggest luxury car market! Of course, this is what happened with the series 2 XJ12, the last year of sales in the USA was 1979 whereas, in Europe it was named the top luxury car for a number of years after! Poor marketing?

Book lists 1325 6.0 export cars, I have seen numbers thrown about from 1100 to 1300. Doubtful there are more than 1,000 left after attrition from rust, parting out, engine fires etc.

It is a very rare car these days. Enjoy!

No problem, Well, I had an early (76) XJS project car which is what was required for the presentation. So I took it to a paint shop for touch up and detailing two days before the event and they somehow overheated it and blew a head gasket!! Luckily I had a rather nice 86 (custom) convertible with a full group 44 spoiler system that we were able to use. Regards

Forgive me William. I didn't mean to sound rude. At first felt you were instructing me to do the research for Andrew and report my findings. Which I attempted, but didn't find the precise information that Andrew was seeking although, hopefully, it may be on the website I provided a link to.
I remember when the XK8 first arrived in my area (Louisville KY). I felt priveledged to see it first, still on the truck/trailer. Covered with that body preserving skin. It hadn't even been unloaded at the dealer yet. What a beautiful car. As all Jags are. My favorite car in life is an XKE, but I haven't found one I can afford. Until then my XJR makes me very happy.
You must have an awesome XJS as it was requested for pedigree display! What a wonderful experience the entire event must have been!
Andrew, please let me know if the link was of any assistance to your inquiry. There is a good deal of information there and to be honest, I didn't read it all but hoped it would be of interest to you.

Hello Jay, forgive me, I meant to send the message to Andrew . Hopefully Andrew will read this, I have a 94 Saloon also & it would be interesting to see this data. I was fortunate to be invited to the launch of the XK8 in Santa Barbara in return for providing my XJS which would be part of the Jaguar pedigree sports cars on display. In addition to being able to extensively test the XK, we were allowed to use factory test cars, (sedans) as transportation. The one I drove was a stick shift with what I believe was the V12 6.0 engine, but with the electronic systems of the coming models, all had been brought down from Canada and were an absolutely fantastic drive.

Yes, XJ12 4 door saloon.

Thank you all for your responses. Following George's recommendation, I spoke with the archive gentlemen and he is going to research while looking up the certificate.

Thanks again.
