I recently became a first time Jaguar owner of a 1996 XJS convertible. As I'm learning about the car I've noticed two sounds coming from the left rear area of the vehicle:

1.) One of the sounds is a creeking type noise(below).

2.) The other sound is sort of a rattle as if something is loose.

The previous owner maintained service records. During one of the routine oil changes etc. the work order refers to the creeking sound and having to replace the tail arm safety strap. Does anyone know how to check for this?

The rattle just baffles me - any ideas?

Thanks

I don't know the answer, but as a fairly recent first time owner of a '90 XJS convertible I also have various little creaks and minor rattles from somewhere in the back side of the car. Haven't taken the time yet to track them down...have been focusing on getting the cooling/fuel injection/exhaust/brakes upgraded, etc. Once I get all of the known "preventative" stuff done I will take some time to try to find these little annoyances. In the meantime I am just enjoying the car. It really isn't that "old" but it sure gets attention like it is ;-) Look forward to seeing what answers come in on this one...
