Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone could give me their opinion on this.
Recently I put my 1976 XJ12-C up for auction on ebay. and the bidding only went to $6800.00
I thought I did my homework on this. The only other coupe I ever saw was in France and it went for $6000.00 and it was in pieces! a total mess!!
My XJ12-C is in very good shape. What do you all think happened? I will re-list it on ebay soon, unless anyone here has any better ideas.
Thanks,
Mike

As a voice from over the Pond, I can say that this car would fetch similar money over here, if that. When I read Mike's first post I expected to see a nicely running car for that money. One that needed work, or maybe a little finishing, or a better paint job, but a car in one piece with almost everything working.
I'd have taken the 6.2K

How much were you expecting to get?
I agree with the other remarks: fickle market, etc.
In your case not only do you need to wait for an XJ12C buyer to come along but you need to wait for an XJ12C buyer who wants to take on a big project and spend umpteen thousands of dollars finishing it. Even then I'm not sure you'd get much, if any, more than $6800, to be honest.
A fellow wanting an XJ12C could probably find one where the seller has spent $20k-$30k on a major resto and buy it for $12k....making a $6800 project car look less attractive. This is doubly so in today's economy where nervous and cash-strapped car guys are trying to liquidate their toys.
Be patient and advertise to the right people, as previously mentioned. Still, though, don't get your hopes up too high with respect to what the car is worth
Cheers

Mike, 12 Cyl XJ's are hard to sell, the engine has been so troublesome over the years that buyers are frightened of them. Because of problems Jaguar stopped selling the XJ12 in the USA in 1979. I would aim my add at Europe as the coupes are saught after there.

Mike you asked----I did not see your car in the latest Jaguar Journal--nothing like marketing to a 100% target market. I did not see your car in the classifieds on this web site--see comments from above. Third you posted in the general section here and not in the XJ section again the 100% market.
As to your listing I would not be so interested in the price you did not get but how many contacts you received. Your car like a couple I own has a limited market and the price will be established by the person or persons interested. Best of luck.

eBay is fickle in this economy and it's not exactly a sellers market. Have you tried listing on Craigs List or Hemmings? What was your reserve price? Do you still know the eBay item number?
