Hi All,

I live over on the E-type side of the forum, but my engine is non-standard and I have been trying to confirm the model (XJ6?) and year; the number is 8L 1809XX. I am told that is one digit too many, but it is definitely 6 digits after the 8L.

I haven't yet found a detailed cross reference, so I would appreciate any info you may have.

Thanks

Thanks George. No confusion here, other than the engine number. I had replied to your comments on JL on Oct 1st, but received no further comments so I assumed that the thread had gone dead, which is why I went looking for the answer from others. I just found a thread on the XJ side of JL where someone else refers to an engine with the extra number, so I am now heading that way as well.

My pictures didn't come out great, so I will try and do a brass rub of the flange. Meanwhile, could this be an engine that was used in another application; military?

It is possible but I doubt Jaguar would use the sequence for production cars for the military--they changed numbers for individual model application. The military engines were J60 if I remember correctly.

Your comment was that you hung out on the E-Type forum which JCNA has also. Did not see the post there.

Are you sure the last number in dot a compression ratio number?

Ian I think you have JL confused with JCNA. You posted this on the E-Forum on JL not here (well at least I can't find it). I responded to you there and am the one that has a problem with the numbers. The 8L series of XK engines began during the series 2 XJ6 run. If the engine you have is 1809XX then it is the 180900 built. That is way more than production of the cars (2 and 3). Are you sure the last digit is not a compression digit-it should be. Assuming that then engine 18090-8 would be very possible. While on that subject why are you using the XX for the last digits? Are you worried about security or can you not read them well? Let us know all the data and someone can help you. Good luck.
