Hi all how much oil burning is normal for a newly rebuilt XK 3.4L engine that is being broken in I am under just under 1000 miles before tune up time.

From your post, you are driving a car with a new engine that is in need of a tune up? To break in a engine properly, it needs to be in top tune from the beginning. If it is burning oil, there is a reason and lack of proper tune could be one of them. Other possibilities are rings not broken in properly or not fitting the bores if the engine was not bored, lack of valve guide seals on the inlet and loose valve guides. Other than that, the oil would have to leak out. How much is your car using?
Chris...I don't recall any smoke when you've had it at gatherings. Any Exxon Valdez under it?
