Greetings Fellow JCNA Members,
As a "newbie" to Jaguar ownership, I have recently acquired an 89 XJS coupe.
Prior to my writing, I have reviewed the entire XJS forum on this site, & found no real info on how to reset or erase the red blinking Security light and/or the "COdE" from my cars radio display.
I tried my local Jag dealer and they were unable to help based on my car VIN.

I'm assuming I have a factory Alpine AM/FM Cassette.
I removed the radio from the dash & on the underside was a white, non factory looking, label with 5 hand written numbers/digits on it.
With the radio fully plugged in but "hanging" from the dashboard, I tried entering the series of #'s but was unable to get the blinking red security light or "code" erased from the digital display.

Is there a trick or sequence of buttons to push prior to or after entering the 5 digit code? (I'm assuming that this series of #'s is in fact the code for my radio)
Anyone's help is much appreciated!!!
Thank you.
Pete

George,
I unfortunately, have no official Jaguar literature that goes with my car.
Are JCNA, or others, re-printing or publishing anything on my specific year?, (1989)....

Thanks again Steve.
It is now functioning exactly as you describe.
I now have the code written on the radio chassis, & on paper in the glovebox for future reference!

Superb! I love it when a plan comes together!

All else is as it should be; key off, security LED should flash. Touch a radio button in that state and it should start beeping at you as well. That's the security function in action. Key on and off again will stop the beeping.

Enjoy your tunes!

Oh, and write down that code. :-)

Cheers,

Right on Steve!
The radio came on immediately once I entered the correct code you provided.

I hate to keep this thread going, but hopefully it will help someone else in the same position I'm in.
Is the red security light supposed to stay flashing after the radio & ignition are switched off? That is what is going on now.
When I turn on the ignition & radio, the security light goes off...

Thanks for the info Steven & George.
I tried the 60 minute procedure you detail above, unfortunately, to no avail.
The 9 digit chassis/serial# on my radio is: B80340722

The radio shows sign of corrosion on the top of its body, about the size of a silver dollar. I hope its not too late for the moisture shedder "adder"...

Spot on George! Any radio of this type I have out, gets a moisture shedder if there is not one there. Heater Core and Evaporator are ABOVE the radio, go figure!

Cheers,

Absolutely agree with Steve. I would also add hatif the radio does not have a moisture shield on top of it while it is out fabricate one. The original service items are NLA.

It's rare, but someone may have written the code on that label. Let's hope that's it. The radio is probably code locked. If it is you will need to set the car somewhere you can leave it safely set with the ignition in position one for 60 minutes. That's the first position where the radio is powered but the instruments are not. Then press the preset buttons SLOWLY until the radio beeps at you. [the radio always beeps at what would be the last code digit] Now leave it without touching anything for 60 minutes. After the wait, slowly enter what you think is the code. If it is correct, it will beep at the last digit and the radio will activate.

If that doesn't work, we will need the chassis number, elsewhere on the radio, to look up the correct code. That number is 8 or 9 digits and sometimes starts or ends with a letter.

Hope that helps!
