Hello Joseph, I cut them so that they abutt the bumper and the light cover, I thought
the later cars no longer had the chrome extensions.

No kidding. I'm on my third set of tail lights and all appear to be ground to different profiles. Thinking there's no alternative but to grind the edges, paint them and hide under the gasket lip. Some of my headlamp nut cages where missing- had to fabricate new ones.

Where the chrome bonnet bead comes down to meet the bumper, did you hide the end behind the bumper edge rubber or stop it above?

Hello Joseph, it appears virtually impossible to find an aftermarket part which doesn't need modifying. Luckily I was able to use almost all of the originals and had my local chrome shop do it. I used the tape to hold the mouldings in place, I intended to take the lights out and hope the mouldings would have set correctly. In fact with gentle pressure and a little wiggling the tape came off easily (I didn't take it too far under the units). The fronts were the hardest, lining up the overrider and the bumpers took a lot of experimenting, particularly the small centre end peices that connect the badge bar. Had I thought about it I would have cut off the un-needed bumper sections under the overiders. Your car has the later design bumpers which are easier to fit from the outsideThe bumper rubber mouldings go around and under. I used two way clips after suitably modifying the rubber and using a little adhesive. The headlamps were another matter make sure the threads are good on all of the captive nuts.

William, enjoyed your photos as am in process of refitting mine on 66fhc. Resorted to tape to hold the rubber edging too. Only problem was getting it out later.

Who'd you use for plating? Are the tailights housings new or replated? Mine were beyond saving but new ones I purchased did not fit.

Is the bonnet bead supposed to terminate at/above the rubber edging or behind/under it?

It will be nice to see the finished job. How thin are they, remember the rubber moulding has to be a nice tight fit. ! will put some photos up of a 61 I am just finishing.

William, IÔÇÖm restoring a 1963 FHC. WeÔÇÖre still working on the body and have not checked the fit. WeÔÇÖll get to it in a couple of weeks. The shape appears to be correct. For pricing check: www.groupharrington.com

stainless steel if scratched can be polished. and the shape of the blade ground to fit my cars body without damaging the finish, i also want to adjust the fit of the over riders, 4 blades and 4 over rider sets are much cheaper than chromed steel. all seems good ! but!!! Is the shape right on, so they look like original, if their not correct, cheaper was not the way to go. unchromed steel is my second choice and the company is well known, the stainless bumper people may or may not be reliable, sounds like Miklos had a good result, are we talking the same manufactuer, HG

IÔÇÖm using a set of stainless steel bumpers on my current S-1 FHC restoration project. The bumpers arrived beautifully packaged and polished to a mirror finish. The gauge is somewhat thinner than the original bumpers, which doesnÔÇÖt bother me since the bumpers have only cosmetic value. Furthermore, the fit, if necessary, can be adjusted and the bumpers re-polished to a mirror finish. I shouldnÔÇÖt ever have to worry about rusting and/or re-plating.

The early factory bumpers were a devil to fit, any aftermarket replacement is unlikely to be any better. If yours fit good, keep them and mark all of the shims.spacers you remove. If they are not a good fit modify them to get a better match to the body then have them chromed. This process can be quite difficult as the bumpers have to be properly fitted each time. What is the advantage of a stainless finish?
