Hello, I'm new to the club and this forum, but have a question about an early steel production xk120 (#670309)that I am restoring. It is currently at the panelbeaters and work is happening to fit the bonnet to the fenders. The car was hit sometime during its life and we are trying to make right but we are not sure what the dimensions should be from headlight bucket to headlight bucket. If there is someone out there with an early car that could measure this and let me know it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Gerald, it looks like you may have to act like an English design engineer and longate the holes like the rest of the car. The fit of the hood is more important than what you can not see in the "ox yoke"
Go for the 29.5 !

Phillip- It is probably properly called the front bumper support bracket. It is the bracket that sits behind the front fenders that the screwed extensions for the front bumpers attaches to.

Thanks All,
William- The measurement that I am looking for is either center to center at the front edge or inside to inside at the front edge. Mine has the 7.7" headlights but I don't think that there is any difference in the size of the buckets.
Phillip- Hope to have mine close to as nice as the one you are showing someday.
Michael- My car is a bit floppy right now, but my panelbeater says that it seems to be happiest when the buckets measure 29.5" apart. 30" is achievable but then the hood doesn't fit well. But at 29.5" the ox yoke doesn't align.

671187 was taken off the road in 1961 and put in a garage. I bought it in 1970 and put it in my own garage, where it still is. The headlights measure 30" apart, as near as I can tell.

Thanks, Phillip. I have been told that there is a difference in the bonnets from the early production cars to the later 120's and that there is also a slight difference in the locations of the headlight buckets. Do you know if any of that is in fact true? I have taken dimensions on a later hood as a replacement and it was wider by about 3/4 inch. Although I know that my bonnet was damaged previously.
