I have a 70 E Type with stock wire wheels. I'm looking to buy a new set of wheels, possibly 6" center laced. I like the look of the wider track. I'm wondering if there is any down side to this type of set up. Any clearance problems? Any suspension problems? What is the best source for the wheels? Also what are the best tires to go with?

The second question is, what is the best source for stainless steel exhaust systems?

Thanks,

Tom

And often make the wheels hard to remove at the back, assuoming theyf don't require the bump stops to be removed, which is also common.

Actually, the latter may be a 'pick your poison' issue, since my 6" centre-laced wheels are reasonably well clear of the bump stops with 205 tyres, but required the arch flange to be relieved on the right side to prevent rubbing. Others report body clearance is fine but the bump stops need to be removed. I would be unhappy running any car without bump stops unless the dampers had them on the piston rod.

Basically, once you deviate from stock be prepared for hassle one way or another, since the cars were not laser-cut or aligned and body dimensions vary enough to make interference unpredictable.

As for exhaust, define 'best'. Does that mean cheapest, best quality, most powerful? Loudest? Quietest? Maybe do your research and then ask an opinion on a couple of defined options.
