I recently bought a nice xjs 1996 convertible. While driving this car from US to Canada I noticed her strange behaviour. Car does not slow down in a normal fashion when I remove my foot from the gas pedal. It is driving with the same speed and takes it several kilometers to notice a slower speed. It did not bother me on highways but in the city I have to use my brakes often. Is it normal for this model?

JXS not slowing down
An easy place to start is to clean the throttle body. No promises but there's a decent chance that'll solve the problem.

What is the idle speed in neutral? Should be around 800 RPMs. The 6 cylinders have been known to have automatic idle problems. The idle is controlled by the ECU and sometimes goes bad causing a high idle which cause this symptom.

It sounds like the throttle is not closing properly, check it when idling, if it only happens on drive, then, when it occurs engage nuetral & stop then check the accelarator linkage. Its funny so many came in from Canada now they are going back? They are the best buy on the sports car/convertible market.
Thank you.
