I am restoring a 1960 Mark IX. The attached photo shows a part I can not identify. It is located less than 12" on the brake line going from the servo unit to the rear brakes. I do not believe it is a brake light switch, that is on the front right. Any ideas? (Sorry that the photo is not in focus)

Preston that publication is a copy (I think) from the land down under of the factory book. As to a parts manual the JCNA Shoppe can have one made for you. Contact me off line if you are interested or call the publications line (888-258-2524 #3) .

George,
Thanks. That is interesting. I saw the device listed in the wiring diagram after I read your post. I have a workshop manual (Scientific Publications, 1962), wiring diagram and manual (from XKS) and JCNA publications "Big Saloons" and "Originality Guidelines". No spare parts manual, though.

I have always found these forums a great resource and sometimes humorous!

Preston that is the anti-creep device. When parked in a drive gear this device would lock the rear brakes on. When a bit of throttle was applied a switch on the carb linkage tripped the switch and released the rear. Its purpose is obivious when stopped in traffic or on a hill-the driver could take his foot off the brake and not have to defeat the auto box trying to inch forward--or on a hill roll back! It was a great system BUT it did cause trouble in service shops. A tech that had the brakes locked could assume the car was in park--while fiddling with carb tune and hitting the throttle to blip the carbs--they would witness the car move off on its own! Preston do you have a service and parts manual for your car? Ya need both.Service is in the shoppe!
