Have 1960 Mark IX generator with power steering pump on back. Generator is dead. Car is positive ground.
1. Does anyone know of a shop local to Charlotte NC who can repair or rebuild?
2. Has anyone converted from generator to alternator? If so, who do you recommend?
3. Has anyone converted from generator to alternator and changed to negative ground?
4. Is negative ground always required for adding vintage air conditioning?

Please respond to our email.....foreverhisx2atwindstream.net. Thank you.

Thank you to all that replied. Here is where my current progress is and what I am leaning toward next.
1. We are definitely not going to change the car from positive ground to negative ground.
2. I now think the generator may be ok, I moved one of the wires on the brushes so it no longer makes contact with the case. When doing the little test from the maintenance manual the field circuit draws about 2 amps and the generator spins smoothly running like a motor. The F and D wires from the generator to the voltage regulator seem to be ok. I have taken the voltage regulator out and it does not have a manufacturer and shows a part number of 216212VNeg/Pos. I played with it using a battery and some of the contacts seem to be very weak. I am now suspect that the voltage regulator is operating intermittently.
3. Anybody have knowledge of an electronic voltage regulator that will work with positive ground?
4. We found a local generator shop in Rock Hill SC, thank you.
5. If the generator checks out to be ok we will not convert to alternator at this time.
Thanks again to all who have helped we really appreciate your opinions and ideas.
Blessings,
Ken

Ken Air Conditioning has no polarity. The only directional items are the blower fans. If you do replace the generator what are you going to do about the power steering? I can tell you you will NOT drive a MKIX without PS. Some vintage ac guys use a special alternator with an adaptor for the orig. PS pump. I used one and it was ok. As far as a shop in Charlotte call Viking imports and ask! (I think they are just off Tryon St) Ask for John or Robert and tell them Hello!@
