Hi,
i bought E TYPE V12 1973 2 months ago
the car was stored for 10 years but in really good shape
Before run the car i'm checking the most important and safety potential issues as cooling system
it seems this is a crucial topics on the V12. The previous owner had probably got some problem according the fact that there are no anymore thermostats the car the radiator has been repaired some hoses have been replace, the fans are running all times (relay switched)
do you think that i have to check head gaskets ? considering hints previously mentioned
the odometer indicate 65 000 miles but ..... is that the real milage .. who knows ??
i already removed carburetors, head cover, radiator, hoses ....
could you give me your opinion ???
thanks

The V12 E did not have overheating problems. My suggestion would be to replace the thermostats (make sure they are 74 C or 160 F ) and any other minor problems then drive the car. See if it overheats then deal with the possibiities. Even if it does not overheart, if this were my car I would replace all hoses, have the radiator cleaned out and perhaps replace the fan motors - They are likely weak if they have been running all the time. Of course this is only done if you have checked that the car is servicable, oils, brake, fuel system etc.
