one of the members of our club has a problem where when she drives down the road in her 2006 XK8 convertible, and occaisionally, the 'Hood not latched' or 'Hood unlatched' comes on. Some time later, the rear windows lower with the hood (convertible top in American parlance) up and latched. only way to get the windows up is to stop, unlatch and start to stow the convertible top, and then reverse to close the top. Until it happens again. Not convenient in 100F degree weather.

Dealer has looked at it I am sure more than once and is now showing her which relays to pull in order to disable the rear windows when the top is up and to ignore the light. They cannot isolate it without changing out units indiscriminately.

On further pondering, something else does come to mind. The Body Processor is also involved here. It is bolted to the large bracket that supports the passenger air bag, forward of the glove box. I would want to inspect the wiring in that area for any chafing on the numerous sharp edges, and the security of the BPM mounting bolts. The module is grounded through those fasteners. Any poor connection there and it's hard telling what strange things could happen.

Cheers,

Brian,

I only see two maybe three possibilities. The first is the Hood switch in the console, possibly too touchy and making contact when it shouldn't; has anything been spilled on it maybe? The second is the Security and Locking Control Module in the boot, it's under the fuse/relay box in the bottom of the carrier. Any chance it has gotten wet? The third is the possibility the networks have been spiked, maybe by a jump start possibly. Something like that can usually be corrected by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and reconnecting. This can also happen if the connection to the battery is not fast and "clean". Often the cable touches the post inadvertently, falls away and then you quickly connect it again. That action can make all manner of strange things start to happen.

Hope that helps some!
