1964 XKE COUPE S1
OK MY FELLOW ENGINE DOCTORS.
FIRST I MUST CONFESS A NO NO, THAT I HAVE BEEN RUNNING WITHOUT THE AIR FILTER AND AIR HORN FOR AWHILE.
I NOTED EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL DEPOSITS ALL OVER THE AREA.
YESTERDAY I GUNKED THE ENTIRE ENGINE CLEAN. TODAY WENT FOR A 30 MILE RIDE NOTED EXCESSIVE OIL AROUND THE AIR TRUMPETS (WITHOUT AIR HORN ATTACHED )
HOW MUCH OIL EXCAPES FROM THE CRANKCASE TO THE AIR HORN ??.WHAT MAYBE THE PROBLEM.
I DO RECALL THAT THE AREA SHOULD BE RELATIVELY DRY.
WAITING ANXIOUSLY FOR REPLYS.
THANK YOU ALL.

Att. George Camp . I changed the oil , added 9quarts and I went 150 miles , it appears its down about 1/2 quart or about 1/4 of an inch on the dip stick. Still running
w/o air filter, pleum is dripping with oil.
Please advise.
Thank you

George; I will check oil consumption. Here are the compression test results today

cyl 6( rear ) 5 4 3 2 1
160 160 167.5 150 155 145 psi
A COMPARSION FROM 2009 NOT MUCH CHANGE IN C.R. 2000 MILES.
IT DOES NOT SEEM TO BE WEAR PROBLEM????.

George and Bill; It just occured to me , this engine has never been rebuilt, how about engine wear and blow by, where the crankcase is being pressurized causing oil thru the breather. I will do a compression check and see if any change from last yeasr.

Ed it all comes from the sump--your question was about excess so unless we know what that amount is there can be no meaningful comment. You are running without the plenum and filter so it may look worse than it is. The plenum distributes the oil through the intake and sort of self cleans.
