This head has just been removed due to an overheating problem, The hole has been eaten through from the water jacket to the combustion chamber. Has anyone ever seen this kind of corrosion?

Yes it clearly will be. I facilitated the sale of this car just a month or so before the head collapsed and so the new owner suspects that we had knew it was likely to happen. This has been a serious issue on Rolls Royce all aluminium blocks from 1960, the head studs just pull out of the block, at least the XK block is more robust.
