Gents, the 64,000 dollar question. Seems the tensioners ran the gamut from soft plastic to plastic and finally to metal. How can I find out which tensioners a particular XK8 has? Will the dealer selling the car know,, for example. Enquiring Minds Want to Know. Thanks, Jim

Will VIN on a '99 JagXK8 Reveal Plastic or Metal Chain Tensioners??
I own a '97 XK-8 with 132,000 miles on it. I am the second owner and do I do not have service records before 44,000 miles....
I guess I need to check the tensioners.
Are the tensioners easy to see with the cam covers off? Is it necessary to remove both covers or could I assume that if one side were changed, the other would be?
Thanks!
Josh

The 99 came with plastic tensioners. Only way to know if they have been changed is to check service records or take the cam covers off and look.
You only need to remove one, do it asap like TODAY.
