Hi All,
I have been rewiring my series 2 OTS and have mostly everything up and running as they should.
Only difficulty left is the turn signals.
Can anyone have a look under their steering column and report back the following connections.

From the main turn signal harness coming out of the steering column, there are LGN, PB, UW wire, to what wire colour do they attach to.

Independent from this harness but in the same area under the steering column, there is GN and a fabric coloured UY wire. Where does these attach to.

This all started because I thought I had put them in the right places but the turn signals do not work and when I turn the ignition to on the flasher unit clicks as if a turn signal was on but they aren't.

I tried it again but am stuck at these wires. Signals still dont work but it is expected.

I have several wiring diagrams but they do not seem to show how these wires go together.

Can anyone spread some light on this.

Thanks

Sorry Bob in my excitment I forgot to respond
Actually, the blue white wire coming from my indicator switch should have been a blue yellow cloth covered wire. I connected the blue white to the blue yellow and the high beams worked.
I connected the rest as per your pics, which were a great help and everything else worked as well.
Thanks again.

Marco,
The UW is your high beam headlamps. You may need to yank all the wires and be sure that they are reconnected as follows:

from the stalk into 10-way rubber connector:
N P headlamp flash switch to fuse # 8
UY UY flasher on stalk to headlamp dip switch
GN GN turn signal switch to flasher unit
LGU BR turn signal switch to lt turn signal warning lamp
LGY BW turn signal switch to rt turn signal warning lamp

from the stalk into 4-way rubber connectors:
GW GW GW GW turn signal switch to fr & rr turn signal lamps
GR GR GR GR turn signal switch to fr & rr turn signal lamps and hazard switch
B B B turn signal and horn to ground

other wires into 2-way rubber connectors:
UW UW high ("main") beam lights and fuse #1
UR UR low ("dip") beam lights and fuse #2,

Good luck ... it can get pretty confusing lying on your back and staring up into the dash!

Bill
thanks for providing your drawing, I found everything except for the UY cloth coming from the switch

I've got the UY cloth wire from the dipper at the column but the only wire that even resembles UY is a non cloth blue white wire. I've checked all the wiring diagrams that I have and pictures provided by Bob. My indicator switch unit seems to have a blue white instead of cloth covered UY wire, none refer to a blue white wire only UY cloth wire.

I looked at some new ones out there but the pics provided by the vendor are not clear enough to make out all the wire colours.

Have you seen this before. The wires seem to be newer than the rest of the car. I wouldnt be surprised given what I have experienced so far.

I am going to take out my indicator switch from the column and compare your drawing and pics received.

I get the feeling the blue white wire could be the UY cloth covered wire. My concern is the guage of both wires. The UY wire is bigger to handle more current. the blue white I have is definitely smaller.

I post a pic of the wires coming from my indicator switch shortly.

Thanks again guys!!

A little late to the forum with a response, but attached is a schematic diagram that I did when I disassembled the steering column wiring on my '69 FHC. Hope you can read my writing.

Refer to pg. 386 in "The Complete Official Jaguar E Workshop Manual". The wiring color codes are the same as the Jag Manual.
PB = purple / black tracer
UY = blue / yellow tracer
BW = black / white tracer
LGY = light green / yellow tracer
P = purple
N = brown
GRN = green / red & brown tracer
GN = green / brown tracer
BR = black / red tracer
LGU = light green / blue tracer
B = black
GW = green / white tracer
GR = green / red tracer
SW = switch

Hope this helps!

Mark I have a 68 with the series 2 type dash and engine. Is hard for me to trace the wires in the car since they go into black tape and is tight in this area. I have a color Series 2 diagram that shows these wires going to the turn signal swtich...

Brown wire going to splice with purple that goes to #8 fuse
Green-white going to hazard swtich and also to splice that splits between the front and rear right turn sig lights
Green-brown going to flasher unit
Green-red going to hazard swtich and also to splice that splits between front and rear left turn sig lights
Blue-yellow to dim swtich
Light green-yellow to right direction indicator
Light green-blue to splice with black-red to left direction indicator

This is from diagram I have from Classic Car Wiring. Hope it helps rather than confuse things

Mark,
I have a 69 S2 so I will be happy to take some pictures or try and help. but I am a little confused.
I looked under the steering column and I see that there is a bundle going into the turn signal control, is this where you mean?

other than that it looks like all the other wires go to the ignition switch. I have a factory A/C car, so my ignition may look different. and I did not remove the panel covering the under dash yet only because I figure I will narrow down what you need first.

if its easier you may email me direct at bfastr(at)cox.net
