Hi Y'all: what problems are within the warning? I checked the fluid, ok, both cold and hot. I did notice for the first time since I purchased this convt, the downshifting when I had to brake fairly hard in order to not hit a car that ran a stop sign. The light was on for about five minutes, and after I pulled into my garage, I stopped the engine, waited for a few seconds, then started the engine, and the light was not on when put into gear. This Jaguar has 108,000 miles and I have not had any problems since purchase. I live 150mi from the closest Jaguar dealer, located in Cary, NC. Thanks for your inputs, Ali

Thanks for your invite Jim: We have given it thought, but we believe that the closest meeting that was organized in the last few years was in Cary, NC. We live 6 hours round trip from Cary, so, a full day's drive or more to the places the club meets. and it appears most of the meeting places are in the western parts of NC/SC. We did meet several members at the North Geogia Concours right after hurricane Irene, because we were looking to replace the first PURRFIK, that was totalled by the hurricane, and we believe we met you there. If we recall correctly, you are a judge. If we ever pick up and head west, then we will apply! Seriously, we thank you for thinking of us. Stew and Ali King

Steve and Jim: Thank you for your input. Took "PURRFIK" out for a drive today, and all is well! In drive, she went thru the up gears and down gears ok. I shifted down into 3rd and 2nd, with no adverse effects and no yellow warning light., so Steve, I chose ice cream instead of wine, as I do not know anyone who was ever pulled over by smokey for eating ice cream while driving. Thanks for your thoughts and inputs, Ali

The inertia switch tripping would also have left them dead in the water. They would have to have addressed that before they could restart the car.

I've had that happen to me though........

The Trans Warning will come on if the inertial switch is tripped. A panic stop can trip the inertial switch which will cause all manner of alarming warning lights and vehicle symptoms.

The inertial switch is covered on the passenger side door pillar next to the foot well. There's a round hole the size of a finger that should allow you to reach in an press the reset.

If that clears the problems, and it well might, then you can consider those warning spurious and drive around in your glorious XJS now secure in the knowledge that when this happens again it's just annoying and not alarming.

If I understand correctly, the trans warning came on during a probably rather scary panic stop; maybe even set off the ABS Brake system. If that's the case, and the warning no longer comes on after a restart, I wouldn't fret about it too much. Under those circumstances, things happen that the modules just know shouldn't normally occur. Then the warning stays on until it is shut down and restarted. Once it sees the systems are normal, the warning stays off and everybody's happy again.

Make a trip out for ice cream or a glass of wine, if no more warning........fagetaboutit.
Keep on JagIN!

Cheers,
