Hello all:

Is there a braided ground strap (or equivalent) in the 1995 XJS Convertible? This would be the ground connection from the engine to the chassis. If so, where does it originate and terminate?

Always my pleasure to hear from you.

The XJS is a 4.0 Litre I-6. Automatic (if that information is helpful).

I am still struggling with the old starting problem. With a new battery (which helped), new starter (which helped), new starter relay (which helped), and no obvious corrosion on any visible connection, I am now guessing the is ground related. The original failure was instant ... one moment it worked perfectly, and the next, did not start without a jump from my truck. No warning or degradation noticed.

Other than this, it is a superb car. Most driving components have been renewed in the past two years (bushings, shocks) steering, brakes, etc. Runs like a Swiss watch -- once I get it started.

Geez, Bob, you are taxing my memory......

First, I need to know, 6 cylinder or V12??

Edit: I saw in another post you have the 6 cylinder. The ground strap from the engine is connected one of two places. One is at one of the oil pan bolts along the LH side of the block. The second possibility is it's connected at a trans bellhousing bolt at the RH side of the trans. I actually think the sedan has it on the RH side, and the XJS has it on the LH side. But it's one or the other.
