I am a long time E-Type owner but I just joined the forums today and this is my first post, so please bear with me if this question has been answered before. I am helping a friend rebuild his 1968 Series 1.5 Lockheed brake master cylinder. I removed the pushrod, boot, retainer, spring and circlip. But I cannot see how to remove the light blue colored plastic "Bearing" that the Haynes manual says to "withdraw" at this point. Putting air to the openings does no good. How do we remove the plastic "bearing"? Thanks for any advise. I look forward to being an active contributor in those areas where I can be of help to others.

Keith:

I have a 3.8l E-type, so I have different master cylinders. I just got a 7/16" bolt from the local hardware store, drilled it through with a small hole, then drilled and tapped the head end to accept a grease nipple. This bolt only catches the first thread on the inlet side of the 3.8l master, as the threads are different, but you don't need much for the forces involved.

I put in a regular bleed screw on the outlet side to close that off. About 4 pumps of the grease gun, and out the piston came. No fuss at all; nothing shooting across the room.

Cheers, Mark R.

Dick: You mentioned using an adapter that screws in where the output line normally goes. I have visited the local specialty fastener shops but I am unable to find anything to use as an adapter. I have different grease guns with different threaded ends, and the master cylinder has a smaller fitting screwing into the larger which gives two different female fittings. So there are many possible combinations. But I find nothing to adapt either grease gun fitting to the brake master cyl output line fitting. What did you use?
Thanks for any help you can offer.
