Many know Im going through the ETYPE again as a refresh for future long trips.....Times change, products change and theres a lot of good modern technology to keep the etype running great with less wear and tear parts.
While replacing my brakes one of the back bolts holding the rubber mounts to the rear end cage lost its nut and washer?.
Now I just did a 600 mile trip 2 weeks ago and felt nothing....If that rubber had torn on a twisted road, a lot of damage would have been done.
Ive restored this car and driven it over the last 25 years....
You have to constantly go through the car.....I never get stuck, never have these crazy stories, why? preventitive maintenance....
Sure it could happen, but it rarely does.
I don't wait for tires to blow, pads to crack....hoses to break.
So put that e type on a lift, grease,wash,lube....it all helps.
I just love that coupe.......

Ed, anytime come on down, we can take a ride to the wineries with the rest of the guys.
I was lucky, My ETYPE was a late 1970 4.2 with the later/smoother cams to start.
The motor was completely blue printed, honed, fluxed, balanced and all the rest.
Way before you were able to buy lightened flywheels, mine was cut ,refaced and balanced, with a stock clutch.
Add series 3 xj6 ignition.......
Triple su's a must.
Curto then personally went through the carbs with modern seats, jets and all the rest. HUGE IMPROVEMENT.
Add aluminium radiator, hign speed flex fan.
3:07 REAR! No 3:54 its horrible for long distance.
Michelin , modern low friction/heat tires with modern cords.
K+N FILTER in the stock round air cleaner.
On and on and on....
28.5 mpg. Its really not that hard , when you add it all up.
I also have the german covered headlight conversion and GM 1 wire alternator.
The whole package looks bone stock. But has all the modern tweeks for reliability
Oh, the airtex/Honda fuel pump with an electric chip, no points, direct swap to the original.
Fuel pressure is always perfect.
Enjoy
