Has anyone had success getting JTIS up and running under Windows 7 or Windows 8?

If so, what version of JTIS are you running?

I've tried in the past to install under Windows 7 without success. This seems to be linked to DAO, but I'm not positive.

I still have a WinXP laptop that I keep specifically for JTIS, but would love it if I could have a "carry with" copy of JTIS again.

lso JTIS has been successfully installed on Windows 8 both 64 bit and 32 bit operating systems.

JoukoN in Finland has been able to successful installed JTIS21 on his Windows 8 64 bit desktop PC and on his Windows 8 32 bit laptop PC.

Here is the JoukoN information on the Windows 8 installation of JTIS21:

I just got a new desktop PC and wanted to get JTIS in it.
Thanks to the excellent materials and instructions of jimlombardi I got the new version of JTIS21 and got it working! In two evenings...

here are the critical points in my case, with Windows 8 Professional 64 bit: - download the program and instruction as instructed, follow the instructions carefully - be prepared to work out the DAO350.dll and JJTIS.ini files, especially if you have had the previous version installed or with an installation attempt before.

MS Help software update -x64 did not work - apparently I'm not missing anything critical

Adobe Reader XI did not work with JTIS21! - had to downgrade to version X and the pdf files started showing up (got it from http://www.oldapps.com/adobe_reader.php?old_adobe=8079)

Seems to work in 32 bit version of Windows 8 Professional, too. The same instructions apply.

End of information given by JoukoN.

Use following commands to register DAO350.dll:
64 bit version:
C:\WindowsSysWOW64\regsvr32.exe "C:\DAOdao350.dll"

32 bit version:
C:\WindowsSystem32\regsvr32.exe "C\:DAOdao350.dll"

The answer is yes - JTIS can be installed under Windows 7 64 bit OS and also Windows 7 32 bit.
Dick Maury has the right weblink to Jaguar Forums thread (post# 79) - gives full instructions and screen shots for the various 32 and 64 bit operating systems.

Both operating system use the DAO350.dll that needs to be registered. We found that creating new folder (C:/DAO), then download the DA0350.dll into the DAO folder - gives us a successful registrations on both the 64 bit and 32 bit operating systems.

You have ownership with full permission when you create the new C:DAO folder.
After you place the DAO350.dll into the DAO folder, you will not have any system security issues when you go to register the DAO350.dll (it is a 32 bit dll file and it can be registered in either the 64 bit or 32 bit operating systems.

Hope this helps.

Andy,

My understanding is that you can only run virtual machine under Win7 Professional and/or Ultimate, though I could be mistaken.

What I have determined is that there is no version of DAO that will install on a 64-bit system and that's what I have on my laptop. I don't know how/why JTIS continued to use DAO for *years* after it was no longer supported and has been officially obsolete for several years now.

I tried to install DAO with administrator privileges and using compatibility mode with XP SP3 and that does not work on a Win7 64-bit machine. [If you haven't already guessed - yes, I am a tech geek and do computer support as part of making a living.]

Dick,

Thanks for the pointer. This may end up being more complicated for me since I've got a 64-bit system with Win 7 Home Premium on it.

I'll have to look on my XP machine to see what version of JTIS it's got running, as I'm not sure about that.
