Gentlemen,
I am the proud owner on a 1972 (Manufactured 12/71) 2+2 V12 in Sable. I am replacing my locked up compressor (with a 4 Seasons 57098) and in doing so I am replacing the drier and expansion valve.
I have the expansion valve with the balancing pipe as show in the attached scan from service manual, Jaguar E Type Series 3 E.125 Issue 2. I am desiring the original &/or modern part number so I can purchase the correct expansion valve. Not the part JS.256 that does not come with the balancing pipe. If you know the amount of oil to be added to the system that would be helpful to me as well... any help will be gratefully accepted.

Thomas I have not been clear I guess. Please stop looking by application and look for fit and function. None of those I listed were slated for a Jaguar. Just match the valve up with tonnage and threads etc.

Hi George,
They all seem like possible candidates. I will be visiting God Speed shop in Brownsburg, IN tomorrow to have a look at there catalog. I did find access to a 2011, 4 Seasons Catalog pictured below. It shows a 73 XJ12, a 72 XJ6 and a 76 XJS all using a Model number 38872 expansion valve. This also looks to be a likely candidate and seeing that all the 70's Jags listed use the 38872 I'm feeling a bit more confident in this choice for now. I will let you know what I find out tomorrow.

Thomas go to a parts house and look at a HARD copy. You will find the exact part in it. Most likely it will say that the application is International Harvester.

Thomas what part of a physical catalog do you not register? Get a hard copy catalog and look up the part. I am trying to help you but you seem to be a bit obtrusive! Did you even read what I said?

Thomas that is exactly why I said a catalog--Print--any good parts store will have a copy. Web offerings are almost always fast movers. Seldom is the agriculture section expanded on the web. Many Jaguar AC parts will have a farm or industrial application.

Thomas get a copy of the 4 Seasons AC catalog--you will find exactly what you need. $ seasons can also quote the oil needed but that is all dependent on if the compressor is pre filled and if you have orig. lines.

Well guys here is how it ended up. I reused my expansion valve after cleaning its screen with carburetor cleaner. Nothing ever seems to go as planed though. I purchased rebuilt compressor from Rock Auto (Four Seasons 161 57089) and an accumulator drier from Terry's Jaguar (C32083X). While preparing to reinstall the compressor I noticed the part number ended in 98 instead of 89 on the box. I received the correct one three days later. I purged the system with A/C Pro Power Cleaner and flushed that out with dry compressed air. I bolted up the new compressor after I filled it with oil. I reinstalled the cleaned used expansion valve and finally installed the accumulator drier. I ran it on a vacuum for two hours only because I was distracted with something else. I gassed her up and boy I have never had a car with condensation on the outside glass before. No condensation leaks from the evaporator. It all flowed nicely through the transmission tunnel. Job done! This week I'm replacing the rubbers on my bumpers ordered from SNG. The front ones are a bit tricky though.
