I'm about to remove & repaint the metal panel below the radio in my Ser. II OTS w/AC. and standard shift. This is the piece that holds the speakers and the cigarette lighter.

Should I expect any surprises or is this going to be a typical Jaguar job????

Any guidance will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Josh

Thanks, Bob.

I got it out; the only surprise was that, unusually for a Jaguar, it was simple and easy.

Whoever installed the radio - JVC - perhaps late 80s or early 90s vintage, was a lot more concerned with "out of sight, out of mind" than they were with doing it right...

ANYONE ELSE DOING THIS TASK: BE SURE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY! You never know what fools have preceded you. Bare wires, loose tape, etc. are the makings of a smoking wreck. I was careful to remember that I didn't want any smoke to escape and I'm glad I did.

I am using the Rustoleum Black wrinkle paint.... I have been doing a number of pieces (heater control knobs and Choke control knob) and have had some good luck, but the practice pieces have shown that it is an art. It seems as if one of the tricks is to keep the painted surface horizontal, make sure the paint is warm and well shaken, and that you can control some of the texture with careful application of the heat from a hair dryer....

Well, here we go!

If you mean the metal console that is the radio face plate and speaker mount . No surprises.
Your radio hopefully is attached to the AC evap and not this part.

As for repainting i found VHT wrinkle paint works the best , its still an art to get consistent wrinkles so google the how tos and plan to practice some.
I also found that contrary to the instructions DO use primer on the metal before the wrinkle paint.
