I have a 1959 xk150 and I am looking into replacing the brake servo unit with a rebuilt one . When talking with the parts department of a well known Jaguar parts distributor ,he recommended a New uprated brake servo unit for around the same price as a rebuilding kit would cost . This new unit is the same size as the original unit and will bolt right in , it has an increased boost ratio of 4.25:1 I am looking for any advise as to try this new unit or get a rebuilt unit any comments would be appreciated . Thank you .

George, Thanks for your response . Do the original mounting brackets for the servo work for the new unit (from SNG Barratt ) and need to be repositioned in the compartment or do I need a entirely new mounting system ?

Louis true enough but the MK2 servo is not the XK150 servo. The kits for the XK150 servo cost more than your rebuild. You are right about the MK2 Servo and fitting it--For a XK150 with vac. tank multiply the effort by 5.

I got my Mk2 servo rebuilt at Power Brake Exchange in San
Jose for about $300. The owner told me they had the
replacement seals specially manufactured for them. Six
years on and still works. I was concerned that the
aftermarket units would not fit correctly. The original
unit is difficult enough to fit into place.

Nancy the original units are very expensive to re build and that rebuild is problematic. Although I love originality with the XK 150 the booster is hidden inside the wing so no one will see it. I have placed the replacement from SNG Barratt in two XK150 'S' s in the last year and they both give very satisfactory performance but they do not "just bolt in". There is a bit of fitting which is compounded by the area that the booster goes in. As your car is late enough to have a vac. res. you need to make sure you leave enough room for that and the lines and valve when mounting the booster. Good luck and happy holidays.
