I am an amateur working on my first Jaguar, a left-hand drive 53 XK120 DHC, that I want to restore to original condition. The car was previously "restored" by a shop that took several expedient shortcuts and I have found some replaced components that were incorrect, so I'm suspicious about anything that appears questionable; in this case the stone guard panel on the right side of the engine compartment. It appears to have been replaced and I question whether the conical indentation to accommodate the steering column is correct for a car with left-hand drive. Also, I question the color and suspect it should be painted the same cream color as the rest of the compartment and exterior. The panel on the left side is also black and appears original, but in refurbishing it I discovered that it was apparently previously painted cream color. Can anyone provide guidance regarding the correct right side panel and correct color?

53 DHC Engine Compartment Panels
Many thanks Howard, Micheal & George for the helpful info. This was my first time using the forum and I am sure I will be back as this project proceeds.

On my '54 OTS, the panels are also mirror images of each other, and are painted black. Was just under there today...
FWIW. Hope this helps.

53 DHC Engine Compartment Panels
My stone guard panels are mirror images of each other, so the right side also has the bump-out for the steering column.

53 DHC Engine Compartment Panels
Gary,
I had the 100 point, JCNA National Champion 1954 XK120SE OTS in 2000 and 2001.
I'm trying to find pictures regarding correctness of the steering column relief in the RH stone guard panel, not much luck yet. My recollection is that it should not have the indentation on the right side. BTW, those panels should be painted black.
Also, from your pix, the triangular support piece with two holes which is spot welded to the body should be painted white as part of the body, not black.
Those two small separate right angle brackets in your pix, with 2 bolts to the front of the bonnet latch plate and 2 to the body should also be black.
Gary, I got out my trusty 120 parts book and confirmed that for the front wing stoneguards, there is not a different # for left or right hand drive cars. Both parts, for left side, BD3382 and right side, BD3383, do not have an alternative number based on whether car is LH or RH drive. Other parts in the the book obviously have those notations when they are different. So the conclusion is that the right side part certainly should have the steering column relief on a LH drive car.
May I suggest you contact George Camp at JCNA Shoppe on the website and get the appropriate manuals for your car. I've had the parts and shop manuals ever since my first 120 in 1958.
They are indispensable!
