When underway I am noticing that every few minutes the XM cuts out for about a second and display read aquiring signal. I'm wondering if I have a poor connection in my antenna, the fin on the roof. It's not power lines and regular dead spots that are always causing signal drops. It's happening on the open road.

Stan, There are a few wide open clear spots around Atlanta that will cause a drop out for a few seconds. One is on interstate 85 near Monroe drive. This particular spot is caused by stray microwave energy from the channel 36 studio-to-transmitter link. It happens at that location no matter which car I drive. You didn't mention your city, but you may check out the areas where you notice dropouts, to see if there are any random towers. Cell towers are not usually to blame, unless they are using a microwave path for connectivity.
If there is some year/model specific issue, please let us know. Someone may have more info, specific to your vehicle.
The customer service people at Sirius/XM are usually pretty good at troubleshooting. You may want to give them a ring. Use a cell phone from the car, so they can talk you through any necessary procedure. Listener Care - 1-866-528-7474
