Is it possible to replace the choke cable on a series 2 e-type without removing the dash pad? If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it. Thanks. Pete

Peter,
Just finished re-installing the dash pad on my Series II FHC. I took it off to repair the speedometer and tach plus the windshield washers. The re-installation took about 15 minutes. The tricky part is reconnecting the defroster hoses to the vents. I started on the driver's side and reconnected the outermost hose first followed by the hose behind the speedo and tach (the most difficult hose to attach because you can't see in there nor get your hands back in there very well). Make certain the two attachment fixtures behind the gauge panel are in the proper place before you drop the dash pad down. If done properly, the bolts should fall right into the fixtures.

Clay is correct - you'll have much better access to the choke cables if you remove the dash pad.

Peter,
I don't know what it is like to remove the dash pad on a Series 2 (I have a series 3) but removing the dash pad is relatively easy and gives you very easy, open access to the choke cable area.
I may be talking out of school if the 2's are different from the 3's.

Thanks for the info Dennis. I haven't had the chance to start the project yet but hopefully will soon. I would really like to do it without removing the dash pad so I will remove the glovebox and take a look. Pete

Peter -- I replaced both choke cables on my 70 FHC without removing the dash top. It was not easy! It's been some time ago but I recall that I removed the glove box and I believe I also removed the choke indicator light on the dash so I could see what was going on in there. My wife helped me route the cables and hold them when necessary. It's not a one person job.

Good luck!

Don, Thanks for the advice. I didn't think it was likely to do the job without removing the dash pad but was hopeful. I don't have a lizard guy around my place either! Pete

Without removing the dash top the job can only be done with the help of the Gieco Lizard guy. He's small enough and can use tools. Otherwise take the dash top off, its not very hard, but putting it back and connecting the air vent hoses can be a bitch. Perhaps others might offer some help about the hose reconnect as I would be grateful for that info myself. When I did this job on my S1 it made me crazy and my insurance company dosn't have a little green guy to help. luck.........Don
