The final drive front seal in my 72 SIII is giving up. What can I expect to pay to get it repaired. From the manual it appears that the unit is dropped and rebuilt. Guidance anyone?

Thanks guys, I had visions of gears, shims and bearings in my dreams last night.
The unit isn't making any noises and I hated to rebuild the whole thing for a leaky seal.

This I can handle.
Thanks Again,
Clay

Clay, sorry I didn't clarify as much Thomas is right. You do not have to drop the entire unit for the front. I thought you were talking about a complete disassembly...
You might need an impact gun on the front nut though.
Good luck

Clay, if you are talking about the pinion seal where the drive shaft attaches to the yoke. You just need to drop the drive shaft at the yoke, remove the pinion nut & yoke to gain access to the seal. No need to drop the rear assembly. 2 hours or less.
Cheers Tom

It really isn't that bad, use modern seals that don't leak and if your in there go through the side yoke seals as well..........If not the front seal isn't that bad....
