We had a wonderful show in St. Louis on 5th October. This was our JCNA sanctioned concours. The weather was just about perfect. Sunny, with a few puffy clowds on the grounds of the Missouri History Museum in St. Louis' Forest Park. The temp was around 70f/21c.

We had over 60 cars displayed at the show. There was a very nicely done C-type replica with all Jaguar running gear, a race prepped ser 3 Etype, 4 XK140s, 2 XK150s, 20 Etypes, a 39 SS 2.5 saloon, a 47 Mk.IV 2.5, a Mk.V, a Mk.IX and a Mk.II. There was a ser 1 XJ, 4 ser 2 XJs and 4 ser 3s. 4 moderns, 3 (new) Stypes and an Xtype. For the GT cars, we had 8 XJ8s and 5 XJSs.

I even had the 76 XJ12L project car on display next to the 84. the unpainted 76 with no interior was one of the biggest draws of spectators there. Go figure. It was nice to see the saloons out in such force. More and more of them are being revitalized as they get older.

You can't ask for better weather and the turn out was very good.

I thought POR 15 was actually converting the rust and stopping it. I've used similar product in the past, they do work like that.

Once the acid is gone, the metal has to be protected. Plain paint would be the bandaid.

: Personally I don't believe in the stuff, but for the application you are

: describing it is probably a satisfactory band-aid. Just remember that

: rust will continue to happen under the por15, but at least you have

: blocked the battery acid from escalating the problem.

: Mix baking soda and water into a slurry and lather it on. You'll know

: that the acid is neutralized when it stops bubbling. Flush with a LOT

: of water. POR 15 is supposed to bond to rust, but I'd suggest a heavy

: wire brushing if there's any exposed metal.

: Dont you have a plastic tray and drain hose, to keep leakage away from

: critical areas?

I'm a self-confessed newbie, so forgive me if I'm being really exceptionally dumb. We also have a Jag ('75 XJ6C) with some corrosion from battery acid. I remembered enough high-school chemistry to use soda to neutralize it, and have done pretty thorough cleaning. But now I wonder if I stopped too soon. A couple of you have mentioned POR 15. Would you mind explaining what that is? How/why used?

Kris,

Of course, it just wouldn't be any fun at all without the gang from KC. I'll personally go out and repair the interstate for you next year. As far as you guys taking back the I-70 trophy, well... we'll just have to see about that. Thanks for coming.

: Thanks for the hospitality.

: We trust that you will take plenty of time and elbow grease polishing

: Now if you could just do something about the trucks and potholes on I70

: between here and there that have received such high political

: attention in our KS state Governors race that would an

: accomplishment.
