Need new tires for our 95 XJS 6 cylinder convertible. Any suggestions? Also, told that 55 sizes are more available than the 60 that comes on it. Any experience with going to the lower profile of 55. Thanks for your help. RER

Just checked. Kumho has a v-rated 225/60x15. There might be others

Scott, there might still be some H-or-higher speed rated tires in 225/60x15...worth checking. I had 225/60x15s on m XJS...no problems.
Either that or try to get some of the P600s
Or go to a 16" or larger wheel. Lots of choices will open up

I was able to source the Pirelli P-600 tires from Tire Rack. It was a six month lead time and very expensive.
It was important to me to replace the tire with OEM. It is speed rated to match the car.
I have talked with other XJS owners who have replaced tires with the Goodrich model and have found them to be adequate.

After 15 years on my 96 XJS which had Pirellis I found the treads okay but encountered dry-rot on a Saturday night. With limited choices and limited time, no one could source Pirelli ZR rated tires. I put on another well know manufacture's tires that are R-rated. Not quite the same taking corners with some speed. Other than that the R-rated tires provide a comfortable ride. I'd go with ZR's next time.

Doug, I'm not totally comfortable with putting 100 mph tires on a 130 mph car that is regularly driven at 100-110 mph on cross country journeys.
Has anyone gone to a different wheel / tyre combo, and if so, what were the sizes?

This might be a short discussion because, as far as I know, only two manufacturers are offering that size, Pirelli and BF Goodrich. The Pirelli has a 'V" speed rating and the BFG has an "S" rating.
I think the Pirelli offering is called the "P600". Check Tire Rack or the other popular vendors for pricing, etc.

I'm looking to buy 5 235/60/15 tires (speed rated H or higher) for my '94 4.0 liter convertible. Any suggestions or experiences with different brands of tires would be welcome.

60-series vs. 55-series? Pretty small difference. Offhand I wouldn't any problem as far as that goes. Others will chime in.
As for "what kind?", well, what attributes are you most concerned with? Long tread life? Traction in hard cornering? Wet weather traction? Quietness? Smoothest ride?
If you're a gentle driver with no specific requirements or desrires then any number of all-season or 'touring tires' would probably be just fine.

Yep, Doug, that is what I use on my XJS...good price, run quiet, no issues.
