I am considering a gear reduction starter motor for my XK120. I am hopping to achieve a quicker start. I can find negative ground units, but not positive ground units. Sure, to convert will allow me to replace the tail lights with high powered LEDS, as well as other lights. If I end up with a negative ground unit, what should I look forward to "flipping", besides the battery cable?

This does not answer your question, but it may be an interesting note about replacing XK-120 starter gears. In 1963 when I was in high school,l with a strong desire for a sports car, I found a 1954 XK-120 DHC near Harrisburg, PA for $700 !! (How I wish I kept it.) Soon after buying it the starter gear began slipping. I managed to remove the starter (when in your teens you can bend your arms more easily). The gears were well worn at the ends that engaged the fly wheel. I told my grandfather about it and he said he would look at it. The next night, to my great surprise and delight, he handed me a new one! He managed the Hershey Chocolate factory machine shop where they made and maintained the the big machines for blending and forming the chocolate bars. With the excellent tools there he measured the old gear and made a new one from scratch. I miss him and that old car.
