My dealer has just told me that the front and rear brakes need replacing. He said the rotors on jags cannot be turned but need to be replaced. The cost quoted is around $1200. Is this reasonable? Should there be some wear indicator light that would show the need for this work to be done?

Kenneth,

The rotors can be turned, but the question is, should they be. I had mine done as a cost saving measure but I regret it. I have experienced some "wobble" when braking hard from very high speeds. That said, the price you have been quoted seems quite high, but perhaps is normal for a Jaguar dealer. Try finding a qualified independent Jaguar specialist. My experience is you will get better work for less money.

I just paid 900.00 for front brakes with rotors so I would say that's awesome. However he's pulling your leg about the rotors. They definately can be machined unless they already have been and our too thin.
