I Own A 1974 XJ6 4.2 Saloon Series 2

Gday i have found another problem with my jags braking it seems that excessive pressure is required to stop the car( I mean nearly 2 feet on the pedal to stop it).
On a brief inspection of the brakes the disks look fine no lip and there is plenty of pads.
after elevating each wheel in turn and rotating the wheel pressing the brake pedal stops each wheel in turn np.
Could this be caused by a sticking caliper or could it be the master cylinder needs a service or could it be brake booster failing (i hear no rush of air when pressing the brake pedal)so im leaning towards the other 2 reasons.
Or finally could it be just old brake pads?.Ive only owned the car for 2 weeks and have the impression it had sat for quite awhile before i got it.
Does anybody know what might be causing this problem.

Well I don't own a jag that old, but if you ask me, the problem is with the booster. If your jag has a vacuum booster, make sure the vacuum line is not leaking, or the check valve is not clogged, also possibly just a bad booster. If you have a hydraulic booster, most likely is the accumulator. Of course if you have a hydraulic booster set up, do the usual checks first like making sure it has hydraulic fluid, or any leaks.
