I'm the new owner of a 1994 XJ6. I've never owned a Jaguar before and am very impressed! I'm looking for a good place to get routine repairs done on it. I live near Indianapolis but could travel up to four hours away for major repairs. I would like to find a shop where the technicians will do the repairs but let me buy the parts and bring them with me. Any information on this would be much appreciated.

Also, I need two remotes for it, the dealer I purchased it from did not have them. (i.e. the key remotes that open the doors and activate the alarm system). If anyone knows where I could find these remotes I would be grateful.

Best Regards,

John

J.A.M. a 1994 is an XJ40. XJ40's were generally the body style you see in the United states for the 1988 - 1994 model years.

I've never heard of them being called "Series IV" nor have I ever heard of the X300's (the XJ6's from 1995 to 1997) being called "Series V"

Mark,
Thanks for your information..this is very helpful. I may give him a call. I've heard of the club (read about it on your web site) and may want to join and attend the meetings at some point.

John

John,

I'm the president of the Indiana Jaguar club based in Indianapolis. We have a member of our club who works in the shop of Tom Wood Jaguar and is very familiar with these cars. I'd recommend that since Jaguars are a bit more complicated than the run of the mill car - especially the 94's on, it would be worth your while to contact him for advice regarding routine service. I've heard many a tale about taking cars to local mechancs who just didn't really know how to maintain these cars, and problems developing. His name is Steve Petry and he can be reached at 317-848-7447 during the day. I'm sure he'd give you the real scoop on maintenance of these cars, since he owns a couple himself!

Keep on JAGIN'

Thank you! Very helpful information again...Ohio isn't too far away. The sources for parts were very helpful as well. I didn't get to Jag Lovers yet but I'll head that way soon.

John I was just teasing about the stones! But seriously, I was reading a post in the XJ Forum at Jag-Lovers about the subject
and someone got mad because someone else used the western numerals in describing the XJ Series!! I'm not familiar with
the 1994 model though I know some owners who are very happy, give or take an issue or two, particularly with the electronic
gizmos, but nothing that cannot be repaired and improved. That's why the Service Manual and Jag-Lovers are indispensable.
Parts prices? My XJ-6 parts are less expensive than my Ford Aerostar (work vehicle) parts. Way less. Suppliers are in the
zillions coast to coast and online. So shop around for price. Auto-Zone, CarQuest, Napa, PepBoys, O'Reilley's, Advanced
Auto Parts, you name it, they carry both generic and Bosch parts for Jaguar. So check them too. I don't bother with the Dealer
anymore. The last time I called the Dealer's Service Dept. they told me they couldn't help because their 'technicians' are younger
than my car! Well, I wouldn't want any kids messing with my car anyway thank you! Close to Indiana I would recommend Welsh
Enterprises in Steubenville Ohio, they've been around since the '60s, they don't have the lowest prices, (but they'll try to match
prices), they are knowledgable and carry a good stock of parts and accessories. http://www.welshent.com and subscribe to
their free by-mail flyers. I have a list of Parts Suppliers that I have collected in the last 12 years, I'll post it here sometime.
Another source is Hemmings.http://www.hemmings.com I could go on and on. Did you visit Jag-Lovers already ? You're in for a treat.

Thanks so much for your information...very helpful. I'm glad to hear that the cars are reliable. I will check e bay and I may buy the service manual you recommended...and remember to use the roman numeral V when describing my car! That's great...I need to learn the language.

congratulations! but why are you thinking of major repairs ? these cars are reliable. The remotes I have seen on eBay
by the dozens. just type: 'jaguar remote' in the "What are you looking for?" box. http://www.eBay.com
Fortunately, my car is 10 years older (1984) so I am still using the primitive Key to unlock and lock the doors.
Good luck finding any mechanic who'll let you bring in the parts, although they do exist; I do my own work and buy my
parts by shopping till I drop. Parts Sources are in the thousands so don't believe everything you hear. Buy a Service
Manual in CD format for around $25 at Jag-Lovers and do your own minor repairs. Join at: http://www.jag-lovers.com
for all the info. you'll ever need about your car past and current. During registration, select the "Jag-Ads" option to receive
For Sale ads from other Members by e-mail or post your own Wanted Ads free. Just for the record, you have a Series 5 XJ-6.
And you must use the Roman V numeral otherwise they throw stones at you!! (there is a debate going on at Jag-Lovers between
Purists (users of the Roman numerals) and Liberals (users of the Western numerals) regarding the XJ-6 Series). Mine is a Series 3.
The confusion starts when the XJ-40 (Series 4 (IV) XJ-6 makes its debut in 1988). But you'll get it straight eventually.
