Can anyone tell me how to replace the rear main seal in a 1972 V-12 E-Type? I did it years ago using a snake and a Ford-v8 pickup seal but have since forgotton the part number on the Ford seal. I seem to remember an article on this by Richard Russ. It worked great and no need to remove the motor.

Re.: V-12 XKE Rear Nain Seal Replacement (Ford V-8)
You can find a write-up on the procedure for doing this on the Terry's Jaguar website. www.terrysjag.com They include the information on parts needed, etc. and step by step how to do it.

Re.: V-12 XKE Rear Nain Seal Replacement (Ford V-8)
Did you do it on this car previously? Before you get into it make sure the crankcase breather is not blocked and the leak is not from above. The "rope" seal (C19654)is available from many jaguar parts suppliers and can be fitted with a "sneaky pete", The rubber "hockey stick" seals for the rear cap is (C45184).
Jaguar affectionado and etc.
In fact, here's the link to the article on Terry's website:

Good luck with it.
