I am looking at a 1970 roadster that is BRG in color. It appears to be the original color. However the seats and consol are light green - almost pale avacado. The carpets and trim on the transmission tunnel are tan. Is the light green an original color? or were the seats originally black or tan?

Jason,
I'll go you one better. Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust provides "Heritage Certificates" for Jaguars. The form to request a certificate can be found in the library on this website. As long as you can provide the relevant information and proof of ownership, you can obtain the certificate which should tell you what the original color of the car and interior were when it was built.

Besides.. I look at it like this piece of paper belongs to the car and they all should have it.

Try contacting Bill Bassett at Bassett's Jaguar in Rhode Island. Bill does outstanding restoration work, and his interior kits are excellent. (NAYYY, just admire his work). Bill can probably answer your questions.

Re.: 1970 E - Type
in a Terry's Jag Parts catalog, it shows BRG exterior as coming with Suede Green, Beige, or Tan interior for 68-69, and adds Light Tan and Cinnamon to the aforementioned interior color option list for 1970. 1970 had five interior color options for BRG.
Seats and carpets would have matched, relatively speaking. Not sure which is original.

Jason,
The JDHT certificate is issued based upon the actual Jaguar build records located in the Jaguar archives. This is not a "generic" certificate. It is checked and authenticated against the original records that were created by Jaguar Cars at the time the car was built.
