Hello:
I am in the process of detailing the engine compartment of my 70 XKE OTS.Can anyone help me with the question of the appropriate paint finish for a couple of the engine compartment items? Specifically the air cleaner(mine is the narrow rectangular side mouted box,not the triangular snorkle). It appears it may have been just a silver not hammerite. Also the heater box. After removal and dis-assembly looks like it may have been gloss black.I have used Eastwood as a source for paints and have been happy with the results.I have a blast cabinet so I am able to properly prepare the surfaces for painting.I just need help on the proper finish choices.i.e. gloss/semi/flat etc.Nothing worse the going thru the trouble of removal/stripping/replacemet of the part only to find you have chosen the wrong color/sheen.Thanks,Dr. Mike

Mike,
The December 2004 update of the JCNA Judges' Guide deleted the reference to the Hammertone silver. It should be painted silver. I am not aware of the availability of these metalic paints in anything but flat, i.e. I have never see these in semi gloss or gloss. By bead blasting before painting the surface texture will achieve the "bite" that the paint needs without using a primer. Proper ambient temperature is needed for a good finish. I have never had a bad experience with Eastwoods' products, so long as directions are followed. I like their Alumablast.
