I have a 1983 XJ6 that has had a lot of repairs over the last year to bring this car back to running condition. All of the power windows were working, but suddenly, now only the driver's window and the sunroof will operate. I know how to use a voltmeter and am comfortable digging around, but where should I start and what are the common reasons for windows to stop working? All 5 fuses below the glove compartment are intact.

On the same panel as the aux fuse box are two circuit breakers for the electric windows (red/slate wires). Check for continuity and/or bypass them and see what happens.
The circuit is split as you describe with one breaker for each leg.
