I'm new to the forum but have been a JCNA member for a while. I need advice on the proper way to trailer my E-type. I have a 6.5 X 16 flatbed vehicle/utility trailer with a wood deck. There are anchoring points every 3 ft along both sides. The front and back edges are 1/4-in angle steel and I assume that I can safely anchor to that. My dilema is where on the car can I attach the tiedown straps? I've trailered other vehicles and generally tie to the axle or frame. However, I don't see anything that appears strong (or safe!) enough under the front end to attach to. Any advice is much appreciated.

Also, does anyone know of a good mechanic in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area? We will be moving there next Spring...thus the need to trailer not only the FHC but also the two MGs. Many thanks,

Do you recommend using "around-wheel" tie-downs for securing an E-Type to a trailer floor?

Dave, just make sure that you do have 200-300 lbs hitch weight.Too little and the tail could wag the dog, too much and besides maybe overloading the springs it will make for some very strange steering!!

Bob,

Thanks for the advice. I do have a tandem axle which is rated at 7000 lbs. The car is only about 2500 lbs so I should be ok. I had thought about using the straps that go over the tires but that would have required cutting and welding in anchor rings front and rear of each tire. Not an easy project for a wood deck trailer. I am still looking for a good mechanic in the Tulsa, Okla area. The car runs fairly well but it sat garaged for about 16 years and I'm sure there is need for some engine and suspension work. If you or anyone happens to know a reputable service in Oklahoma I would appreciate it. Again, thanks for the tip!

Here is a pic of three of my loves. The one leaning on the bonnet takes priority though. (She told me to say that!)

David,The car should really be anchored straight forward and backwards and wheelblocks certainly are an advantage. I tie off on the most inner part of both lower control arms and on both back axles. If your trailer doesn't have tandem axles it will probably be over loaded.
