Art, my friend. Shame on you! You provide no informnation at all about the car other that its having a V12 engine. Series I? II? III? it matters!
you say "early", but that can mean anything.
If you were meaning a Series III car, I would most definitely suggest looking at that troublesome GM module in the ignition amplifier; in fact, I would go first to the amplifier regardless of series. If the car does have electronic fuel injection, then this module is a frequent trouble spot. Note that it is made by GM, not Lucas. Easily replaceable - the module within the amplifier, that is, not the entire amplifier ($$$$).
Otherwise: the obvious: the coil and any connections (but you know that). Or on an early car, the trigger board in the distributor?
