Is there a reference online defining the various series of E-Types?

For example, my understanding is that there was never officially a "Series 1 1/2" - so is a '68 E (open headlights and taillights above the bumper) still considered a S1?

Also, is the introduction of the V12 the "official" start of the S3? But I also understand there was a transitional year (70? 71?) where the early cars were 4.2L, and the rest were V12. So would S3 start in the middle of that year when the V12 came in?

I spied a very nice fhc here in dunedin last october at a local show. It was a series III with an original 4.2 six cyl. Flared fenders, leather steering wheel etc etc.

As with the compact sedans, there was never a Series 1 until Series 2 came along (Mk2 for compact sedans). The Series 3 is any V12 E-type. There was less than a handful of 6 cylinder Series 3 made and I think only 2-3 survive so you will likely never see one of those. If it's a late six it's an S2.

Yes the 68 is still an S1 as defined by its serial number.
