Guys a Sunday question for you all. I have the chance to acquire a huge shop that I could easily turn into a clubhouse for car enthusiasts. It is equipped with a large comfortable upper lounge area equipped with a kitchen that would allow both food and drink to be served in very pleasant surroundings. Another large lower meeting area that would be great for education purposes and presentations. It has a large 4,000 sq ft work area that would be a fully equipped service shop adorned with two or three car hoists with an area set aside for detailing and perhaps even a down draft spray booth.

So my question is if this facility was in your area an available to you. How much would you guys consider a reasonable membership fee would be that would tempt you to become a member enabling you to have full use of this facility. Remember of course that your JCNA membership cost would be part of this fee. The place would also have to carry a very comprehensive accident insurance that does not come cheap nowadays. However on the other side of the coin you would be able to get your parts, tires, oil and whatever else can be negotiated at wholesale prices through the club. Experts would even be available to offer advice on all aspects of car restoration and repairs. So what would a membership be worth to you.

I thought I should add that the proposed club would also hold the normal activities such as Sanctioned Concours, slaloms, poker runs and track days subject to it receiving JCNA approval. Other cars clubs would also be invited to use this facility as well as Jaguar owners but on alternate days.

Bill your right. It would be located On the East side of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Your winter storage idea is also good, I just had not thought of that, thanks. I would have lots of space away from the actual workshop to store cars for the winter in a safe secured heated area possibly guarded by my four German Shepherds.

Why do I have this sinking feeling that you're somewhere other than close to me?

If it were on the order of a golf club membership, with the kinds of services that implies, you could be onto something really interesting. An annual membership fee of somewhere between $500-$1,000 might be within reason.

For that money, I'd expect to be able to reserve time on a lift or in the detailing bay. I'd also expect to be able to get technical advice and have Internet access from within the shop in case I needed to research something. If you are in an area where the cars don't generally get driven year-round, then an additional fee for winter storage could also be one of the services.

It sounds like a great idea if the financials can work.
