Both front(door) speakers have no sound, back speakers are fine. Can't find a fader control on the radio and don't have the seperate user manual for the radio. Stock XJS radio. Don't want to start troubleshooting it as a problem and find out there is nothing wrong, just a "cockpit error".

Perhaps someone has their radio manual handy and can help me with this one

Bill/Gloria,

Not being particularly mechanically inclined, I "lurk" and try and learn. This site and jag-lovers.org have become "second nature" for me to frequent and they - or rather their contributors - go a long way to making Jaguar ownership and use much less intimidating (to the point where many of the posters seem more like friends, not just list contributors although that might be a bit presumptious on my part).

Other than general comments and discussion, it is not often I get an opportunity to respond to someone else's question with an actual "solution". Thanks for the opportunity and for posting back - the only thing still missing is your music of choice now that full sound is back. :)

James,

Thanks for your reply. I found the fader control using the previous post. Turns out fading is controlled by a small ring around the volume control. It's not labeled and hard to see when all the way clockwise.

Not sure about the removable face plate but will give it a try. I will probably buy the manual for the stereo system.

You are sooo right about the fader control ring. Front speakers work fine. It is not labeled and when it's all the way clockwise, the little handle can't be seen from a sitting position.

Bill/Gloria,

Not sure if your radio is the same but this shows the factory jaguar am/fm/cassette with trunk mounted 6 disc radio in my VDP":

The "fader" is a ring with a tab aroung the on/off volume knob that has a "soft" centre detente at the 9 o'clock position. When not centred, it is very easy to move to all front or all rear as the radio is turned on or off and/or the volume adjusted. Hope this helps if yours is the same.
