I'm going to be installing a set of these carbs on my 140 roadster and I need to talk to somebody that has done this.
Thanks,
Gill

Well, it is a lotta trouble for very little increase in power, but they look GREAT! You will need to shorten the rod connecting the carbs, if I recall correctly. You will also need the little doohickey that connects the choke cable to the choke lever on the rear carb. The Roadster Factory has these too, I believe, if it's not supplied by XK's. Also make sure you have correct insulators. The ones that came with mine were made of a material that conducted heat. No problem while driving but very hard to start when hot.

John, thanks for the information, is there a big difference in power and is it worth the trouble to switch? Will the spacer type thing between the carbs have to be cut to allow for the bigger carb. because it looks tight to me as is.

You need a die grinder with a burr made for aluminum. Align one of the 2" gaskets on the holes in the manifold and trace the bore onto the manifold. (It helps to have a spare in case you screw up...) Grind out to the new size, but be aware of the water passages in the manifold. You will not be able to get a perfect circle all the way in.

You will have to fabricate a bracket for the choke cable (you can use a spare regular one if you have it) The TR3 cable is a nice pull and twist design. The linkage for the choke and the choke brackets are similar on the TR3 for H6 carbs.

You probably will have to bend the fuel supply line to avoid the H8's, but it will fit eventually.

The only trouble I had was engine bog down when the throttles were suddenly opened. Thicker oil in the dashpots may help.

Thanks John for your reply, presently I have the H-6 carbs on my car. The h-8s are coming from xks unlimited, I just don't really know what I am getting into, will the old linkage bolt on to the h-8's? What is the tool of choice for cutting out the in take manifold to 2"? I really want to do this job myself because if I take it to my regular guy I might not see the car for a year -like last time.
