I recently purchased a 68 2+2 with the tripple carb setup.
I was reading somehwere that series 1.5 and up had the 2 carb setup.
Is thistrue? I have checked via the vin # & it falls in the 1.5 series. It falls between 1E77709 & 1E79221 . It has rocker switched on the instrument panel, rather than toggle switches.
The confusion comes in whre i read that the 1.5's have a 2 carb setup with ribbed cam covers in black with dual rad fans.

Does anyone have a picture of a series 1.5 engine compartment?

A bit confused ?

Go to the Concours page of this site and scroll down. On the left hand side you will see a link to the JCNA MY '68 E-type Judges' Guide. Open it. You may download it if you are a JCNA member. From the Chassis number you provided, your car may be a Non-North American export model. The only way to tell is to get a Heritage Certificate - forms available on this site. However, most likley, a previous owner switched out the carbs.

It's quite likely that one of the previous owners may have simply replaced the strombergs with triple SUs (involves replacing the intake and linkage also). The second owner of my car did that, because he wanted to improve the preformance.

As for the ribbed cam covers with no black paint. I believe all ribbed cam covers, regardless of where the car was shipped to, had black paint between the raised ribs. Perhaps a previous owner, while changing gaskets or servicing the cams, removed the paint rather than repaint them. If you want the black paint between the ribs it is a fairly simple process.

Strip and clean the covers.
Paint with desired paint.
Let dry at least overnight.
Sand the rib surfaces with 1500 grit wet-dry sandpaper in a sanding blocks.

I'm not sure what vin #s became the federalized version with the dual stromberg setup. That is what I have on my 69 2+2. A great resource would be to ask the members of the jag lovers list. It is www.jag-lovers.org. Many of the members are also JCNA members. Yet another list is xkedata.com. Many of us have our e-types registered on that site with pictures. It is a site attempting to keep data on all remaining e-types. Another great resource. Another way to possibly find out the country it was delivered to etc is to contact the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust. JDHT can provide you with the build certificate and various other data on your e-type. It was relatively inexpensive. Lots of people have converted their dual setups to triples to gain more horsepower. I'd love to, but just can't afford to right now.

I am not sure of the original country, but my 68 Jag has a 3 carb setup, dual fans, ribbed cam covers ( but no black on them - maybe it wore off? ). Could it be that the car was for Canada? Also, the lack of the black on the ribs of the cam cover, is that important in the ID. They look just like the ones with
black, but no black on the ribs or in th name JAGUAR .

If a 1968 model year E-Type was delivered to the USA it was equipped with 2 carbs, ribbed cam covers, two fans, rocker switches etc. Cars delivered to countries other then the USA may have had 3 carbs. The source of this information is the Jaguar Interim Parts List for the 1968 MY E-Types.
