Has anyone had any experience testing or changing a CPS on a 1989 XJ6. How do I know if that is my non-start issue?

Hi Dennis,

To check the crankshaft sensor, all you need to do is use a voltmeter on the low AC scale. (3volt works good) Find the large round connector at the front of the engine and stick a pin or something similar in along side the red wire. Don't disconnect the connector! (There are three wires total) Connect the voltmeter red probe to that pin and the black probe to a good ground. Crank the engine and read the voltmeter. If you have good cranking speed, the meter should read approx. 1 to 1.3 volts AC. Any less than that tells you the sensor is probably the problem.
